Nesbitt Memorial Library Journal
The pamphlet in which
Zumwalt's "Brief History of
Columbus" was originally
published measured four by
nine inches. The cover was
a rather bright orange, with
the border design, the illus-
tration of an oak tree, and
the lines from Joyce Gilmer
printed in green, and the
rest of the text in black. The
first page, which like every
subsequent page that con-
tains text, was printed with
a border design, is head-
lined "The Story of Colum-
bus" and opens with a few
statements and a poem about
dinosaurs. Zumwalt's his-
tory begins near the bottom
of the same page and con-
cludes near the bottom of
page 8. It is followed by a
history of the local Masonic
lodge, the Caledonia Lodge
No. 68, and, on pages 9-1 1,
Zumwalt's history of the
Stafford Opera House en-
titled "The Columbus Opera
House." A very useful piece
entitled "Columbus Today"
and encompassing 41 pho-
tographs and one illustra-
tion begins in the middle of
page 11 and continues
through page 22. The last
two pages, neither num-
bered, contain a city direc-
tory, complete with tele-
phone numbers and the years
many of the businesses were
established.
