Republicanism vs. government
programs extends debate
RAYCRYER
Rusk
In response to my letter
criticizing often encountered
Republican philosophy, I
received an angry letter, and
made note of a more kindly
if patronizing, letter to the
editor.
I should have said in my let-
ter that I have known many
charitable Republicans. My
point is that no single acts of
charity or even all süch acts
combined, can equal a single
government aid program.

Wild hogs nvade Jacksonville
CAESAR A. ROY
Jacksonville
Homeowners on Woodhaven
Circle in Jacksonville have
been plagued by visits from
wild hogs. They have literally
destroyed several lawns.
During the past week they
have raided this neighborhood
at least four times, inflicting
heavy damage to the properly
of almost every homeowner
on the street. It is estimated
that these marauders consist
of bands of 20-10 animals,
No physical harm has be-
fallen adults or children on the
street so far; but I am fearful
for our safety in the face of the
large numbers of potentially
dangerous beasts.
The city animal control of-
fice responded to our pleas
for help a few months ago
and placed traps in several
locations in the area. While,
I understand that a few of
the hogs have been caught,
this method of control has
had minimal or no effect on
the impact of the intruders on
our lawns. The City trapping
effort has been a total failure
asa means of controlling these
animals.

ing with the city manager,

helps more people than the
collection of private efforts.
If some folks have grown
weary of my attacks on Re-
publicanism, be assuredthat I
am equally weary of attacks on
the government, particularly
as it feeds and houses so very

neighborhood was told that
the "individual homeowners"
are responsible for controlhng
these marauding animals. It
was made clear by the city
officials at that meeting that
''city government" is not re-
sponsible for the protection of
hfe andproperty ofitscitizens
in instances where wild hogs
are involved.
Ihave sent letters to each of
the Jacksonville City Council
members requesting that the
wild hog problem be placed
on the agenda for an upcom-
ing city council meeting in
order for affected homeown-
ers to present their views
on the responsibility for city
government regarding this
problem.
Rusk
lie: "Ever hear of a bleeding
heart Republican" letter to the
editor in the Oct. 15 issue:
My wife and I have raised
three children to be produc-
tive citizens and all three of
them work along with their
spouses and they also vote
Republican.
Our youngest is in the U.S.
Coast Guard and his wife
runs a small business in
Corpus Christi. Our middle
daughter is a school teacher
and her husband is in the
Coast Guard also. Our oldest
daughter and her husband
operate a small business and
have two children. My wife is
a school teacher also and all
of my family votes Republican
except for the children and
we're teaching them to think
Republican also, I'm retired
chawing from the U.S. Postal
Service and also the State of
Texas. I suppose you think
we're hving off the govern-
ment because we happen to
have worked for the different
government agencies.
I worked 43 years and paid
into the retirement systems
mentioned. I also paid taxes
for that period of time and
thanks to Bill Clinton and
the Democrats in Congress
our Social Security is taxed
also. None of my family has
ever drawn welfare benefits.
They've worked for what
they have. The letter writer
thinks Republicans despise
females having babies and
drawing welfare. Well, you're
wrong sir.
I know some people make
mistakes and some should
receive help but it should
come from their families and
churches.
These deadbeat men or boys
who impregnate a girl or wom-
an should be held account able
also to provide for any off-
spri ng they helped bring into
this world. Democrats think
if someone gets pregnant or
fries their brains on chugs,
then their neighbors should
pay their medical bills.
Democrats think every CEO
of some corporation is guilty of
greed and try to create "class
warfare" among our citizens.
According to them if a person
gets an education and works
very hard and gets a good job
and climbs the corporate lad-
der through hard work, then
they're greedy.
I know there is greed in all
areas of hfe. There is a little
greedin mostpeople but we're
told by the Democrats only
the Repubhcans are for the
greedy.
I met a lady with 12 children
with different fathers and
she didn't marry any of them
because she woulcllose a lot of
her welfare, SSI, food stamps.
Medicare, Mechcaid. She lived
herein Rusk and drove a very
expensive Suburban around
town bought by taxpayers
dollars.
The abuse is widespread
contrary to what the previ-
ous letter writer says. Most
of us have seen such abuse
and it's your tax dollars pay-
ing for it.
The Democrats think more
along the hne of Marxism.
They believe "we should
spread the wealth" as their
leader Barrack Obama de-
clares. I'm not rich nor do I
envy anyone who is.
I don't clesire anything they
may have attained in this life.
My happiness comes from the
Lorcl Jesus Christ and he is
sufficient for me,
I know most Repubhcans
I've met think the same way
I do.
The letter writer also men-
tioned someone in his church
chawing social security and
state retirement as though
this person is chawing from
the same pool of welfare as
those having multiple babies
chawing welfare.
The difference being the
person he mentionedhadbeen
a productive citizen and paid
into Social Security and state
retirement for those years he
was employed. I don't want
my dollars paying the way for
those who don't work nor chd
I want my tax dollars being
used to bail out Wall Street.
I expressed this to our Con-
gressman, Jeb Hensarhng.
Republicans believe in hard
work and also the Apostle
Paul along with Captain
John Smith of the Jamestown
Colony, who said " If a man
doesn't work then he shouldn't
eat."
