school land League 42, along with the east line of the said Rains
County school land League No. 45, to the northeast corner of the
said Rains County school land League No. 45; thence, west from
the N. E. corner of the said Rains County school land League
No. 45 along with the north lines of League No. 45,
Rains County school land League 46, Edwards County
school land to the N. W. corner of the said League No. 46, Edwards
County school land and to the west line of Hockley County;
thence, south from the N. W. Corner of league No. 46, Edwards
County school land along with the west line of Hockley County,
to the S. W. corner of Hockley County; thence east, from the S.
W. corner of Hockley County, along with the south line of Hockley
County to the southeast corner of Sec. No. 18, John Doyle
land to the place of beginning. Being the territory now comprising
Ropes Independent School District No. 6, in Hockley
County, Texas,
SEC. 3. The management and control of the public free schools
in said Clauene Independent School District is hereby vested in
a board of trustees, which board shall be composed of seven
persons, resident citizens and qualified voters within the district,
who shall be elected and qualify as hereinafter set forth.
SEC. 4. The board of trustees of said Clauene Independent
School District shall be and is hereby made a body politic and
corporate in law, and as such shall have power to contract and
be contracted with; to sue and be sued, to plead and be impleaded
in any court in this State of proper jurisdiction as may receive
any gift, grant, donation, or devise made to or for the use of the
public free schools of said district.
SEC. 5. As soon after the taking effect of this Act as may be
practicable, the county judge of Hockley County, shall order an
election for the purpose of electing seven trustees to serve as
trustees of said Clauene Independent School District, whose
terms of office shall be as follows: The terms of office of the
seven trustees chosen at the first election under this Act shall
be divided into two classes, and the members shall draw the
different classes, the four drawing the numbers one, two, three,
and four, shall serve for one year, or part thereof, that is, until
the regular election of trustees of independent school districts
to be held in the year 1925, and until their successors have been
duly elected and qualified; and regularly thereafter each year
four trustees and three trustees shall be elected for a term of
two years to succeed the trustees whose terms shall at that time
expire.
SEC. 6. Before any trustee enters upon the discharge of his
office he shall qualify by taking and subscribing the oath of office
provided by the Constitution of this State, which oath after the
first election, shall be filed with the county judge of Hockley
County, Texas, and after all subsequent elections with the president
of board of trustees of said Clauene Independent School
District.
