No. 2 1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Permian Basin Petroleum Association (PBPA) is 3 honoring John Younger of Midland with its Top Hand award, given for 4 outstanding achievement and for contributions to the industry and 5 the community; and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Younger graduated from McKinney High School in 7 1933 and went on to attend Texas A&M University, where he served as 8 captain of the Corps of Cadets and editor of the yearbook during his 9 senior year; and 10 WHEREAS, After receiving his bachelor's degree in chemical 11 engineering, he began his professional career with Baroid Sales 12 Division as a mud engineer; he later headed the first mud logging 13 unit, which he brought to Midland in 1940; and 14 WHEREAS, When he received the call to defend his country in 15 1941, Mr. Younger was inducted into the United States Army, where he 16 attained the rank of lieutenant colonel; upon his discharge, he 17 moved to Eunice, New Mexico, and began working for the Western 18 Company; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Younger became an independent oil operator in 20 1957 and seven years later founded the Airport 20 Corporation; 21 today he remains active in real estate and business ventures; and 22 WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has long worked to promote 23 the oil industry of West Texas; in 1961 he was one of 60 individuals 24 who organized the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, and he later
