Tobacco Stamps.
The Internal Revenue Bureau is receiving
letters frequently asking whether unused to-
bacco stamps of the old issue Will be redeemed
after May 1 when the new tax went into
effect. It may be of interest to dealers to
know that such stamps will be redeemed if
presented within three years from date of.
purchase.
The Acting Commissioner of Internal Rev-
enue to-day sent a telegram to collectors in
the principal manufacturing districts of
which the following is a copy : Increased
facilities have been provided for imprinting
stamps and after the nth of May it will be
within the power of this office to relieve the
Immediate pressure and at an early day to fill
all requirement.
A Novel Strike.
The St. Louis Evenine Chronicle states
that a school-mistress of New York City has
struck for higher wages and aims at a mag-
nificently high mark. She has been getting
$950 a year for educational work and she
asks $5000 a day and gives her reasons for
the raise in a letter addressed to the School
Board. She finds that Patti gets $5000 a
night for singing which is a mere luxury and
could be dispensd with and the world go on
just the same while she gets only $950 a year
for doing indespensable work without which
the world would stop stock still. Patti she
grants has a genius for singing although she
never heard her not being able to afford the
price of a ticket out of her salary while she
the school teacher has a genius lor teaching
and contributes to the world's progress which
