Brilliant Barbecue.
Last, Fridav evening the
Woodmen of the World gave s
fine barbecm 911 the lawn front,
in? the residence of J. R. Hart-
graves snd it was one of the
nicest snd mort enjoyable affairs
of the kind ever given here.
Those who had the manage-
ment in ehargo had left undone
nothing that could in any man-
ner contribute to the strcoess of
the occssion and make for those
attending an evening of genuine
pleasure-
First of all there was an abun-
dance of finely barbecued meats
and lots of other good things to
eat. Strings of besutifuliy ar
ranged electric lights lent en-
ohsntment to the lively scene
giving th n * the appesrance of
dsy. During the entire evening
sweetest mueie imb discoursed
by the orchestra from Hrenham
and at appropriate intervals ii •
teresting talks were mode b>
Rev. J. W. Goodwin, J. K.- H^-
lep and Jesee Garrett. Their
talks were along the line th«
good the Woodmen are doing in
their fraternal order. It seemed
• hat everybody present had th.
time of their ife,
The Woodmen deserve much
credit for the evening of hap-
piness they made for themselve.-
and their friends. To sum up, it
w«8 one of the nicest affairs of

"What is a home without a
paper?" A home without a ne\VB
paper is no home at all It is a
kind of dreary dan—a rendezvous
of bedbugs and fleas, where the
inhabitants live in blibsful ignor-
ance of what the world is doing.
It is inhabited by a class who do
not know who i<* president or
what he is president of—who
never find out that a thing has
happened until long after every
one else has forgotten it. The
children grow up in rags and
dirt, while the wife generally
finds consolation in darning socks
and lugging a pipe loaded with
long, green tobacco, nnd the
man generally lives because he
can't die and ho is too lacy to
kill himself. He goes out on
election days, and does not know
who he is voting for, but just
takes the ticket bearing the
name his great great grandfather
voted for.

Boys with hats on the baok of
their heads and long hair hang-
ing down over their foreheads
and cigarettes and very smutty
stories in their foul mouths are
"cheaper than old worn out work
horses. Nobody wants them at
any price. Men don't employ
them and sensible girls won't
marry them. They are not
worth their keeping to anybody
and it is not likely that they
will be able to keep themselves.
