[ ] The information enclosed came from the interment cards that have been microfilmed. These are
available in the Texas/Dallas History Department of the Dallas Public Library.
* The individual was listed on an interment card, but no tombstone was located.
# The individual was listed on an interment card in the Single Section, but was not listed in the
Singles Ledger.
ASL Alpha Singles Ledgers is an alphabetical list, but to 1911 when it becomes alphabetical by year.
This has been filmed.
FS FS: Information that immediately follows is from the footstone; usually initials, or a single name.
LOC LOC is Lot Owner Card. Most of the information in brackers [ ] comes from the Interment Cards,
but some information was taken from the Lot Owner Cards.
nd No date given
OOL OOL is the Old Oversized Ledger which was lost in a fire in the 1940s.
OSL OSL is the Old Singles Ledger which still exists, but has not been filmed.
SP Spouse. Used when there is more than one name in the information column. Otherwise, a name
appearing in the information column is a spouse.
When a woman's maiden name is known, it is capitalized; otherwise her married name is capitalized.
Names appearing inside a box indicate that this is a double, triple (or greater) tombstone.
Funeral Homes Listed in the Interment Cards of Oakland Cemetery, Section 1
Oakland Cemetery opened in 1893. The 1894-95 Dallas city directory lists these funeral homes: P. W.
Linskie, 465 Main: P.W., Miller & Ward, 350 Elm; and Ed. C. Smith & Bros, 142 S. Ervay. Geo W.
Loudermilk Funeral Directors opened at 465 Elm in 1896. The 1898-99 city directory lists three funeral
homes: Loudermilk, 465 Elm; Ed C. Smith, 432-425 Elm; and J.E. Dunn & Co, 463-465 Main. Records
of the Ed. C. Smith Funeral Home (1909 to 1929) are available on microfilm in the Genealogy
Department of the Dallas Public Library.
Unless otherwise noted the funeral homes listed are (or were) in Dallas, Texas. The addresses of Dallas
funeral homes can be found in various Dallas city directories, available in the Texas/Dallas History
Department of the Dallas Public Library.
