i Sticjekb was very much sur*
while at LaGrange last Sat.
to find pinned upon the
lappei of the coat of a voung man,
who claims to be a democrat, a
Hawley button. There is no such
thing as a Hawley democrat. It is
either a democrat or a republican

Again we notice in one of our

of fame and it doesn't surprise us
WM-: either. -The gentleman we have
' j reference to is no other than our
; friend Wra. Eilers, who was elect-
ed president of the Washington

You can always find the Hal-

for Robson and democracy in this

A PROPER HAWLEYCRAT.
There has been a party going
through the German settlements in
Fayette said Austin counties mak-
ing sermon speeches for R. B.
Hawley. This party hails from
Dallas, and it is a little strange why
the republicans of the Tenth dis-
trict have to import a German
speaker from Dallas county to tell
the good citizens of Austin and
Fayette counties how to vote. The
name of this party is Ben Fabian,
and is a man with a history. In
1894 the grand jury of Pallas coun.
ty presented to the district court
a true bill, charging this same
Ben Fabian with the crime of for-
gery. Later he was tried before a
jury of his own selection and was
given a term of two years in the
penitentiary. The judge before
whom the case was tried denied
the defend^t $ gew trial and sen-
tenced him to confinement in the
penitentiary for two years. The
defendant appealed to the Court of
ovigpRal appeals and his case was
by this coujrt $ffifl#ed. The de-
fendant made a motion fbf a re
hearing, which was granted and the
judgment was reversed and the
cause remanded, When Mr, Haw.
ley wants to send his emissaries
among us to tell us how to vote,
we would prefer that he would not
send us a jailbird to tell us. The
only way that we can resent this
insult is to do it at the polls. Our
denjoppatip champion has no jail-
birds advocating fcij? claims. We
have the documents certified under
the hand and seal of the district
clerk of Dallas county to substan-
tiate every assertion that we have
made. Mr. Fabian got out of jail
on April 4th, 1898.
