"Collector's Choice" is the title of an exhibition comprising approximately
40 items by old and modern masters valued at more than two million dollars
which will open Wednesday, November 15, at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts.
The works -- predominately paintings but including a few pieces of
sculpture -- range in date from the second half of the 15th century to the present.
The purpose of the exhibition is to give art patrons in the area an
opportunity to see a group of fine art objects in a rather r wide range of periods,
schools and prices that are currently available for museum or private acquisition.
These choice items, selected by the museum staff and a committee from
the board of trustees, are being loaned by galleries and leading dealers in
New York and on the West Coast.
The works of the Dutch school, the oldest group, include paintings by
Rembrandt, Barent Fabritius, Thomas de Keyser and Evert Collier.
The French school has the largest representation, with a total of 22
items by 18 artists. Among them are Monet, Chagall, Degas, Bonnard, Dufy,
Renoir, Modigliani, and Matisse.
