Built on a fast cruiser hull, this fighting light aircraft
carrier received a Presidential Unit Citation for her
indomitable spirit in action against the enemy in the
Pacific War. Her air groups were among those which

Named for Lieutenant (ig) Jeff Davis Woodson, a gallant
Texan who was lost in action at the Battle of Midway,
Woodson carried out continuous antisubmarine patrol
and convoy duties in the vicinity of the Philippines,
and supported the occupation of Korea at the end of
World War II

Rayburn, twenty-eighth Fleet Ballistic Missile submarine
