Bobbitt was dispatched to Wal-
Mart for a theft complaint. Store
personnel had detained John Bra-
dy Minnis, 39, of Bastrop, for theft
of a large amount of merchandise;
Minnis also had two outstanding
local warrants, the police report
said. Minnis was arrested and
transported to the Bastrop County
Jail for theft, class B and traffic
warrants.
■ On Aug. 17, Officer Dale
Hamilton was dispatched to Wal-
Mart in reference to theft. Hamilton
met with store personnel and the
suspects. Three 14-year-old sus-
pects arid one 17-year-old girl of
Bastrop were issued citations for
theft along with criminal trespass
warnings, the report said,

The Bastrop Lady Bears varsity volley-
ball team had just lost their first game in
nearly a week when news broke that two
of their own tested positive for the Swine
Flu, or H1N1 virus.
Players, their parents, coaches and
Bastrop Independent School District offi-
cials gathered in head coach Christy Don-
aldson's office Friday evening where She-
vis Moore, BISD's emergency management
coordinator, made the announcement to
the team that their evening match against
Luling had been canceled.
"We wanted to let you know that two
players have tested positive for the Swine
flu," Moore told the players and their par-
ents. tfWe are following the recommenda-
tions of the (Center of Disease Control) on

On Wednesday morning, Bas-
trop County commissioners heard
funding requests from various
county department heads- and
a handful of nonprofits- as they
build the 2009-10 budget.
Sheriff's office
The Bastrop County Sher-
iffs Office made a stout request
for more patrol deputies on the
streets and more medical staffers
to work with inmates at the jail.
County Judge Ronnie McDon-
ald summed up the request by
saying, "It's going to come down
to positions" when t comes to
deciding what will be funded
of Sheriff Terry Pickering's re-
quests. Pickering said he did not
take his budget requests lightly.
"I don't see it as a wish list—I
take it really seriously," Picker-
ing said. "We do have a plan for
where we want to be and a direc-

precautions for
coming year
Bastrop ISD detailed this
week their continuing efforts
to prevent the spread of the flu,
including the H1N1 - common-
ly known as swine flu. BISD is
working closely with the Texas
Education Agency, Government
Division of Emergency Man-
agement, Texas Department of
State Health Services and local
health agencies to monitor and
control flu conditions.
The preventive/action mea-
sures include:
■ Campus nurses will as-
sess and monitor all illnesses,
as well as report diagnosed flu
and flu-like illness trends to lo-
cal health departments.
■ BISD staff will be encour-

torical Society's present
initiative to create a new
heritage and visitor center,
complete with new and in-
novative exhibits, the Kerr
Community Center Board
authorized Elroy Williams,
the association's president,
to deliver a $16,000 grant
from the Kerr Center to the
Society.

special history exhibit com-

Man convicted
o sexual assault

Staff Writer
An Austin man, formerly of Bastrop, will be
behind bars for a long time after a jury found
him guilty Wednesday in 423rd District Court
of two counts of aggravated sexual assault.
On Thursday, Kenneth
Ray Henry, 29, received 25
years in prison and a $2,500
fine for the first count and 55
years and a $7,500 fine for
the second count, with the
prison time to be served con-
currently.
Because of the nature of
the felony offense, Henry will
not be eligible for parole un-
til 50 percent of his sentence
has been served, according
to the Texas Code of Crimi-
nal Procedure.
