Dear Sir:
Your favor of the fifth with
logs and notes on the wells has
been icfuved ami I wish to th'til:
you for s."'ne.
A well like No. 1 with the wa-
ter surface at 10 feet arid havii g
a capacity of 70 gallons should it'
it will hold up to that be of ser-
vice in irrigation. Jt is likely
that it will run down under pump
ing that is the surface will drop
somewhat. For such a head it
would be necessary to have a res-
ervoir or distribute the water
through lined ditches or pipes the
bitter being preferable where
the water is clear.. If a good
strainer were placed in a well
No. 1 it will usually help the
flow. In other words under the
pumping the fine sand is brought
!to the survaee and coarser sand.

Missionary Society Met.
The Uaptist Ladies Missionary
Society met Monday afternoon at
the Pastor's home Mrs. Gross and
Mrs. Dantzler acting as hostess
for the occasion.
A cloud came up and a show-
er seemed imminent so the atten-
dance was not so large iis usual.
AUut twenty ladies were pres-
ent. An interesting feature of
the everting was an address on
the subject under discussion by
Pro. Kdgar Ingram. With a chart
of the Canal zone he gave us
some interesting instruction con-
cerning our missions in the Zone
which was much appreciated by
all.
Vice President Mrs. Taught
presided over a brief business ses
sion and then a refreshing ice
course was served.
. It was decided to meet each
month at tho Pastor's home as
it is more centrally located and
take turns in acting as hostesses.
Mrs. Kubank and Mrs. Taught
will receive lis the next meeting.

Mule Killed by Lighting
While enroute to Clairemont
last week Mr. and Mrs. John Red-
den were overtaken by a severe
electric storm in the Croton com-
munity. One of the mules being
driven to the hack in which they
were riding was struck by a bolt
of lightning and almost instantly
killed and Mr. Rcddin and wife
barely escaped with their lives

Mr. Huffman is nearly wild ov-
er the subject since he has read
those instructive articles on ir-
rigation by Mr. Anderson of Sny-
der. He says to irrigate and use
the intensive method of fanning
that this country will soon blnnm
like the rose but as there is no liv-
ing water between the headwat-
ers of the Concho and tin- Cana-
dian rivers it will be necessary to
di ill wells and pump the w ater up
and hold it until needed and tl at
will b" all the lime.
Mr. Huffman says that he has
noticed a long time that all the
young and tender plants need a
great deal of nursing am: care and
from now on be and Mr. Anderson
are filing to be ti e wet nurses nf
this coutry.
