J. S. Handford
HANDFORD is a de- ^
veloper. As president
of the Arlington i
Heights Realty com -iii
pany he has developed
one of the most fashionable suburbs
in the State-Arlington Heights.
It was the Arlington Heights Realty
Company that laid out this suburb
and secured car service connections
with the city which finally was the
means of the Northern Texas Trac- : 5 s
tion company taking over the street ; W^ f
car line, which will mean greater
development for that section. Mr.
Handford is also prominently identified
with other business enterprises. l
He is president of the White River ix
Grocery company, Batesville, Ark.,
which is one of the largest wholesale
grocery concerns in that State.
He was also president of the Bank
of Batesville for nineteen years, retiring
in 1909, when his other business
ventures required his time and
presence elsewhere. Mr. Handford
is a native of Pennsylvania, having
been born in Philadelphia in 1854.
His father, rJoseph Handford and
his mother, Narcissis P. Handford,
were both natives of Ohio. Mr.
Handford is a thirty-second degree
Mason and a Shriner. The development
of Arlington Heights alone
would be sufficient to secure for him
a place among the Fort Worth men
of affairs, but he has been prominent
also in other steps for the advancement
of the city in which he
has made heavy investments.
