who found a memorial marker of one of
the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence
while on a hunting trip, we have compiled
this list of Texas heroes and their burial sites.

* Jesse B. Badgett
Thought to be born around 1807. Returned
to Arkansas, where he presumably
died and was buried.
* George Washington Barnett
Born December 12, 1793. Buried in the
old cemetery in Gonzales and marked by a
Texas state marker.
* Thomas Barnett
Born January 18, 1798. Died on September
20, 1843; buried in the Barnett
Family Cemetery, near Richmond.
* Stephen William Blount
Born February 13, 1808. Died February
7, 1890, and buried in marked grave at
cemetery in San Augustine.
* John White Bower
Born December 7, 1808. Died in 1850
and buried in Refugio County on land
belonging to his grandson.
* Asa Brigham
Born in about 1790. Died on July 2,
1844; monument erected at his grave in the
old cemetery in Washington.
* Andrew Briscoe
Born in 1810. Died in 1849 and buried
at family cemetery in Claiborne County,
Mississippi. Reinterred in 1937 in the Texas
State Cemetery.
* John Wheeler Bunton
Born February 22, 1807. Died August
24,1879, and buried in the Robinson Cemetery
near Mountain City. Reinterred in
1932 in the State Cemetery.* John Smith Davenport Bryan
Born in about 1798. Died July 10,1837.
State erected a monument at his grave at
West Columbia in 1936.
* Mathew Caldwell
Born in about 1798. Died in Gonzales
on December 28, 1842; buried at the old
cemetery at Gonzales.
* Samuel Price Carson
BornJanuary 22,1798. Thought to have
died in Arkansas and be buried at the U.S.
Government Cemetery there.
* George Campbell Childress
Born January 8, 1804. Died October 6,
1841, in Galveston. The State of Texas
erected a monument at his gravesite in the
Episcopal Cemetery at Galveston.
* William Clark Jr.
Born April 14,1798. Died on January 3,
1871. The State of Texas erected in 1936 a
monument in Oak Grove Cemetery in
Nacogdoches.
* Robert M. Coleman
Born in about 1799, Coleman drowned
in the Brazos River at Velasco in 1837. In
1931, the State of Texas erected a monument
inFreeport, Brazoria County, in honor
of Coleman who drowned nearby.
* James Collinsworth
Born in 1806. Committed suicide in
1838 by jumping off a boat into Galveston
Bay. After body was found, he was buried
on July 24 in Houston's old City Cemetery.
* Edward Conrad
Born in about April 1811. Died at
Victoria, July 13 or 14,1836, and buried in
Evergreen Cemetery, Victoria.
* William Carrol Crawford
Born September 13, 1804. Died September
3, 1895. Buried in the Cow Creek
Cemetery, north of Dublin. Remains exhumed
in 1936 and reinterred in the State
Cemetery at Austin.* Richard Ellis
Born February 14, 1781. Died December
20, 1846, and buried in the Ellis family
cemetery near New Boston. Remains exhumed
and reinterred in 1929 in the State
Cemetery.
* Stephen Hendrickson Everitt
Born in about 1806. Everitt died in New
York City on July 12, 1844. Burial site not
named.
* John Fisher
Born January 18, 1800. Died in Charlotte,
North Carolina, on August 13,1865;
buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.
* Samuel Rhoads Fisher
Born December 31, 1794. Shot and
killed on March 14,1839. Buried in marked
grave in the cemetery at Matagorda.
* James Gaines
Born in about 1776. Died in 1849 in
Quartsburg, California.Burial site not documented.* Thomas Jefferson Gazley
Born January 8, 1801. Died on October
31, 1853, and buried near Smithville. Remains
exhumed in 1937 and reinterred in
the State Cemetery.
* Benjamin Briggs Goodrich
Born February 24, 1799. Died November
16, 1860. Buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery
in Anderson, Grimes County.
* Jess Grimes
Born February 6, 1788. Died March 15,
1866. Buried in the John McGintry Cemetery
nearNavasota. Remains exhumed and
reinterred in 1929 in the State Cemetery.
* Robert Hamilton
Born in about 1783.Died on August 16,
1843, in New York. His grave could not be
found, though the State, believing that
Hamilton had died in Red River County,
erected a monument in the old Rowland
