Honorary membership may be conferred upon any friend of
the school by a recommendation of the regular membership.
The charter members are:
Vincent Sikes, Claude Sikes, Gertie Horn, R. Roy Coons,
Stella Brown, Vernon McCasland, Howard Noles, Lylian Arledge,
Mrs. Addie Gilliland, Eddie Whittemore, Rubye Elliott, Walter
W. Sikes, Mrs. W. C. Smith (nee Lorah Branch) and Carl Cannon.
MISSION STUDY CLASSES.
Under the leadership of Bro. Freeman, the students organized
during the 1918-'19 session a class for the study of Missions, both
home and foreign, with particular emphasis on the study of foreign
missions. The interest in this work has constantly increased.
SCHOLARSHIPS.
Owing to the difference in the grading of the two classes of
students two scholarships are offered-one in the academy and
one in the college-to the student making the highest average
grade, deportment included.
SOCIETY CONTESTS.
T. C. CAMPBELL LOVING CUP.
Mr. Campbell, the dry goods man, who is always our friend,
gives a handsome silver cup to the society that wins in the debating
contest in a series of at least two debates during the year.
THE READING MEDAL.
A gold medal is given to the lady who wins for her society in
a reading contest.
THE ESSAY MEDAL.
A gold medal is given to the young lady who wins for her
society in an essay contest.
THE ORATORY MEDAL.
A gold medal is given to the young man who wins for his
society in an oratorical contest between the two societies.
