SESSION OF 1922-'23 57
some safe and sane problems of the Apocalypse by John. Continuation
of 323.
342.-Teaching the Bible. (Christian Pedagogy.) This twohour
course is designed for the masses who are now being needed
to put the Bible work of the churches on an educational basis
worthy of its design and influence. It is closely related to other
courses in education, of course, but fills also a particular need
as well.
The first quarter includes a study of the rise of Bible study in
Sunday schools and the development toward the present scientific
standards. Series, both national, denominational, and international,
are considered as to plan, content, and effect. The
value of the work at present will be shown from the viewpoint
of social welfare, educational importance, and religious influence.
A very practical course for those who want to become useful in
such work in the world.
352.-Teaching the Bible. The Student, Grading, and Teaching.
Devoted to wide reading in the best manuals and select assignments
from the ablest writers. How to classify and teach are
the main points. This brings one to study the child in his development;
to consider the problems of making the proper divisions
for best results in study. How to discipline and grade for
best effects. Insight into the value of certain lessons from ethical,
moral and religious view. Continuation of 342.
362.-Teaching the Bible. The School; equipment, selection
of teachers, management, special days, social side, relation to
other work of the church. Practice and observation make up a
part of this quarter. These three courses contain the most valuable
materials for making efficient Christian workers, in home,
church, school, or mission. The educational and social values are
great, but the religious bearing is evident as well. Continuation
352.
373.-Inter-Biblical History. By syllabus outline an orderly
study is made of the entire period, particularly of the land of
Palestine. Besides references to Josephus and encyclopediae
there is short connected reading of political changes through
Persian, Greek, Maccabean, and Roman periods up to the beginning
of the gospel age. Considerable consideration is given
to the apochrypha and other extra-canonical books as to the religious,
social, and political conditions. The rise of the Jewish sects
is traced. The "Kingdom of God" and the teaching of apocalypicSESSION OF 1922-'23
