course in cross-cultural research techniques which stresses observation
skills, questionnaire writing, and elementary statistics.
BMIS 526 The Missionary Woman (30-3), summer. The missionary
woman's sphere of service on the foreign field with emphasis on her
role as a teacher, personal worker, wife and mother, and how these
roles will be modified by life and work within a different culture.BMIS 527 Campus Evangelism (30-3), on demand, summer. The nature of
secular culture on the large university campus will be studied as well as
effective methods of penetrating this culture with the gospel of Christ.
BMIS 528 History of Restoration Missions (303), on demand, summer.
Historical and contemporary developments in the foreign missions efforts
of churches of Christ since the inception of the Restoration Movement.
BMIS 529 Field Work (30-3), spring. Students will set their own goals
and structure procedures in a missions involvement project among
peoples of different ethnic groups in Abilene, under the guidance of the
professor in charge. Requirements for this course may also be satisfied
by participation in faculty approved evangelistic efforts at home and
abroad.
BMIS 533 Leadership Training by Extension (303), bi-yearly, summer. An
evaluation of leadership training methods abroad. The student will
design an extension model and write a proven unit extension education
model.
BMIS 541 Seminar in Selected Missionary Field (3-0-3), on demand, summer.
A research program designed to prepare the prospective missionary
through an understanding of the culture of the people among whom he
will be working.
BMIS 544 Urban Anthropology (30-3), summer, fall. The study of urban
areas from a cross-cultural perspective. Sociological-anthropological
methods of urban analysis. Research tools to enable the urban worker to
understand the city and to develop strategies for introducing the Gospel
to city dwellers.
BMIS 545 Missionary Anthropology (30-3), fall, spring, summer. The cultures
of people throughout the world with emphasis on cultural patterns.
BMIS 546 Missionary Principles and Practices (303), fall, spring, summer.
An attempt to determine Biblical principles relating to world evangelism
and a search for effective methods in proclaiming the Good News.
BMIS 547 The Home Church and Missions (30-3), on demand, summer.
Instruction in securing a sponsoring church, raising funds, developing a
mission philosophy with the home congregation, keeping the brethren
informed, and terminating a relationship with the home church in a
wholesome way.

and development, both numerically and spiritually, of self-supported
leadership and teaching in mission churches.

and cultural background of modern Hispanic America with selected

BMIS 556 The Mission and Expansion of the New Testament Church
(30-3), fall. The missionary character of the first century church with
special emphasis given to the methods of Paul.
BMIS 558 Special Topics in Missions (30-3), summer. A variety of minicourses
which provide practical training for cross-cultural workers (such
as indigeneity, team missions, appropriate technology, house churches,
missionary medical training, ham radio, Marxism, medical anthropology,
ethnopsychology, communication with non-literates, Bible translations,
hymnology, kinship systems, and visual anthropology).

language with emphasis varying with the needs and aims of the class.

BMIS 571 Introduction to the Study of Religion (30-3), spring. Examination
of various aspects of religion from the perspective of the major
living world religions to gain a greater skillfulness in approaching the

BMIS 579 Latin American Peoples (30-3), summer. A study of the heterogeneity
of Latin America and the intercultural relationships between
North and South America. Same as HIST 579.
BMIS 580 Urban Evangelism (303), summer. A study of the metropolitan
centers of the world and how the Christian message has and is being
