a football game at Perryton Fri-
day night were Injured when
their car ailed to make a sharp
urve The accident happened
about 10 45 p m at Highways
3 and CO about two miles north

hospital here last Tuesday
The child was born at 8 15
Monday evening and died at
8 50 the following night
The body was taken to Arnett
Okla for burial

from college at Canyon over the
week end

Mrs Maxlne Barnes 25 passed
away Wednesday night about
midnight less than a week after
having been transferred from
the Canadian hospital to the
hospital at Tulsa Okla
Mrs Barnes died oi Injuries
received in an automobile cci
dent near Friono on July 12
She had nover fully regained
consciousness but at times It
was thought from her expres-
sions and actions that she had
recognited members of the
family She had not been able
to speak at any time since the
accident
Mrs Barnes was the youngest
daughter of Manuel Herring
and a granddaughter of Mrs
Sarah Herring both of Cana

schooling In Canadian
Besides her father and grand
mother she Is survived by her
stepmother Mrs Manuel Her-
ring by two children Helen
Hollls 6 of Tulsa and Tommy
Hollls 8 of Miami by her hus-
band Jess Barnes of Tulsa and
by three sisters and two broth
ers Mrs Ola Rich of Ventura
Calif Mrs Thelma Rich of
Omaha Nebr Mrs Dorothy
Echarren of Oxnard Calif Dew-
ey Herring of the Amarlllo air
force base and Bobby Herring
of Canadian
Other relatives include an
aunt and an uncle in Canadian
Mrs Rachel Kelly and Robert
Herring
Funeral services were held
here Sunday afternoon at the
First Baptist church A large
crowd was present to pay their
last respects to the popular
young matron
Pallbearers were Lee Chumb

ray Wes Bennett and James
Porter
Burial was made In the
Canadian cemetery beside the
body of her mother Mrs Mary
Herring and that of her broth
er Donald who was killed in
the grain elevator explosion at
Perryton a little over a year
ago

The Canadian Wildcats de
feated the White Deer Bucks
here Friday night by a score of
32 to 13 A steady rain fell
throughout the game and the
field was entirely covered with
water
Husky Tom Schacf scored all
Ave of the runs for the Wild
cats with Raymond Ramirez
adding the two extra points
The White Deer team was
sadly handicapped by the ab
sence of several of their players
due to injuries
The press box on the local
field had just been enlarged by
the school giving much needed
additional room The original
box was donated to the school
last year by the Modem lumber
company
The Wildcats will play the
Clarendon Broncs on the Clar
endon field this Friday night It
promises to be a hard game for
the local boys as the Broncs
defeated the powerful Lefors
Pirates Friday night by a score
of 19 to 7 in a startling reversal
of form
Everyone who possibly can is
urged to drive over to Clarendon
Friday night for the game The
Wildcats certainly deserve all
the support we can give them

For Lester Wheeler
Held Wednesday
Funeral services were held at
the Washita church Wednesday
afternoon at 230 for lames
Lester Wheeler longtime resi-
dent of the Washita community
The Rev C C Mcrrltt of
Wheeler officiated at the last
sad rites He was assisted by
the Rev Noel Bryant of Borger
Mr Wheeler passed away
on Monday of last week at 6 55
p m following a heart attack
at the home of his sister Mrs
Curtis Damron of Washita with
whom he had made his home
for the past few years
He had been in poor health for
some time but had not suffered
with heart trouble and his sud-
den death came as a great shock
to his family and friends
Mr Wheeler was born at
Bennett Nebraska on July 12
1895 He had been a resident of
the Washita community since
1909 He farmed for many years
and was a member of the Meth-
odist church
Mr Wheeler was preceded in
death by his parents Mr and
Mrs J A Wheeler of Gageby
and by one brother John
He is survived by three sisters
Mrs Vance Morehead of Borger
Mrs Arthur Curnutt of Excel
Tex and Mrs Damron Other
survivors include five nieces
two great nieces one nephew
and one great nephew
Pallbearers at the services

California Honorary pallbearers

Work is progressing nicely on
the new building between the
Hernphlll motor company and
the old Western Auto store It
is being erected by Crow and
Crow for use as a law office It
is expected to be finished about
the first of the year
Mrs Jimmy Forrest and chil
dren spent the weekend at
Stratford where Mr Forrest has
been assisting at the grain of-
fice there Mrs Forrest says he
will probably be gone three
more weeks since they have
three million pounds of grain
on the ground to be stored

spent the weekend with Mrs
Caylors sister at Kenton Okla
Besides visiting on the ranch
they also spent some time in
New Mexico

Here Friday Morning
The Trueblood wrecker was
called out early Friday morning
Jim Polndextcr who recently
underwent surgery In the hos
pital at Albuquerque N M Is
reported to be very low and la
critical condition
He was thought to be getting
along nicely Mrs Polndextcr
had started on her way home
Friday when she was notified
at Amarlllo that her husband
had taken a turn for the worse
She took a plane back to Albu-
querque
Mr and Mrs Ben Jordan left
Friday night to be with them
Mrs Jordan and Mrs Polndextcr
are sisters
Mr and Mrs Emery Vlznal
returned home Friday night after
trip to Temple to visit their
daughter and Isonlnlaw Mr
and Mrs Don Campbell and
their baby son James Jr They
also spent some time at Houston
and Galveston before returning
home

ting along nicely in the hospital
following surgery
