TEXAS IiAND SAM.
Y virtue of an act of the general congress of the republic of Texas, parsed
i at their laBt sesrion, authorising me to have surveved the island of Galves-
Ca3, to be laid off in lots of not less than ten, nor over forty acres each; and that
tie said lots oe soiu mine city ot Houston to the m,hest bidder at puonc auc-
tion, on thesecond Monday in November next. The public re hereby noti-
fied that the said islandwill be thus partitioned off in tiers, with suitable and
conrenienf avenues for ingress and egress, leading across from the Biy to the
Gulf shore, and sold accordingly. The terms of sile will be one fourth cash,
and the balance in equal instalments payable in three, six and nine months,
with lien until final payment. The government will guarantee the purchaser
fy -patent. It is known that various"indmduals under ppecious pretexts pre-
tend to ho.d claims to this Island; the government, however, are satisfied that
all such claims are fictitious, and only calculated for speculation, and that the
right of the property is properlyin the government. A plan of the surveys will
rje exhibited in Banks' Arcade, city of New Orleans, assoon as the work can be
completed. The locality of this Island for commercial advantages is too well
Known to the public to need description; besides its very great and well known
advantages far health as a summer residence. It is confidently' hoped that an
enlightened public will avail themselves of the advantages here offered.

Buffaloe Bayou, Texas.
THIS city, most eligibly situated, and nearly equidistant from the most im-
portant towns in Texas, and decidedly the best location in the country,
as well from the quality of its well timbered laud and internal productive ad-
vantages, with a pure spring of fresh water, is now being laid out into lots for
public or private sale. The city of Buffaloe is distant irom the Brazos about
22 miles; from the mouth ol the San Jacinto 10 miles, and from the city of
Houston about 8 miles. As the Buffaloe bayou, above its junction with the
San Jacinto rh eand even up to the le ee of the projected city, widens to a con-
siderable extent, essels that can cross Red Fish bar may sail u p, in one day and
discharge their cargoes. The proprietors of the town nave determined a soon
as practicable to run a rail road to strike the Brazos se en miles above Bolivar,
and to use every effort, having considerable capital at their control, to rival
any city or town in Texas. Application for lots to be made toJVIr. Meri-

SITUATED in the county of Washington, sixty miles northwest ofthe city
of Houston, thirty five miles east of the town of Washington, and six miles
west ofthe San Jacinto River, in the centre of a high, beautiful and undulating
district of country, distinguished for health, good water, and soil.
It is expected that a new county will be organized, at the next session of
congress, embracing this section ofcodntry. in which event, the town of Mont-
gomery from its central position, must beselected as the seatof justice.
The San Jacinto affords an excellent keel boat navigation to this point.
The most direct route from the city of Houston to Robertson's colony and JRed
River settlements, and from Bevils settlement to Washington, pass through this
town. The great extent of good land lying contiguous, and its increasing and
enterprising agricultural population, cannot fail of making this one of thaxaoet
flourishing inland towns in this republic. .. -
Sales of lots at auction will take placo in the town of Montgomeryi,onJhe
