The Jewish Literary Society offers a SPECIAL prize of 500 in gold
of taking out a marriage license ton
days before the license can be issued
was endorsed yesterday afternoon by
th council of Jewish Women at a meet-
ing held in this city
Mrs Eli Hertzberg president of the
Council of Jewish Women and also of
the City Federation said We are
heartily in favor of the bill requiring
the publication of intention to marry
for ten days before the granting of a
license It would do much toward the
elimination of divorce and save many
young people from a life of unhappi-
ness on account of a hasty marriage
Where the parties are not of age we
are also in favor of requiring the con-
sent of parents either in person or in
writing as required by the bill It
would certainly be a good law and if
passed as recommended by Representa-
tive Jenkins requiring thirty days pub-
lication it would be that much better
The council also endorsed the com-
pulsory education bill the bill prohib-
iting the sale of tobacco to boys under
the age of 18 years the raising of
the age of consent the married wo
mans rights bill and tho bill making
more libera1 appropriations for the
Girls Industrial school at Denton and
the Southwestern Trades school
