New 'Advance Registration' outlined
HSU students should have
by now received notification
by mail of changes in early
registration procedures. The
Registrar's Office has up-
dated the process in order to
make it easier for students to
register.
First ;ne name has been
changed to ADVANCE
REGISTRATION. It will take
place April 6-8 for current
HSU students.
Next it is now possible for
students to advance register
for four sessions at once: May
Term Summer I Summer II
and Fall semesters all at the
same time.
In order to do this students
must first secure from the
Registrar's Office a Course
Request Form. To avoid
possible confusion these
forms will now be color-coded
according to term. May term
forms are white; Summer I are
pink; Summer II are blue; and
Fall are yellow. (Note: when
students advance register in
the Fall for the upcoming Spr
Ing semester they should
pick up a green Course Re-
quest Form.)
Once the proper form has
been picked up students
must confer with their ad-
visors select desired courses
and alternates and obtain the
advisor's signature on the
form. Admission to Advance
Registration will be determin-
ed by the number printed on
the form so students who get
Course Request Forms early
and are advised early will
have first access; additional-
ly more scheduling options
will be available to them than
to students who delay the pro-
cess. It is important to remember
that no student will be allow-
ed to register without the ap-
proved form.
Seniors will be given the
Course Request Forms
numbered 1-300 and thus be
allowed to register first. Other
students will receive a form
numbered between 301-1700;
all forms may be picked up at
any time.
Students sometimes re-
quest to be able to register
earlier than their allotted time
due to work or athletics. No
exceptions will be made
however; if anyone is unable
to Advance Register at his
designated time he may
come between 4-4:30 p.m. any
of the three days
Continuous Registration is
also available. Many students
are unaware of this although
it has been available in the
past also. Under this option
students may register for
courses andor amend their
current schedules in the
Registrar's Office at any time
between Monday. April 11 and
the first day of classes for
each term. However students
need to remember that if they
do wait to register andor
amend schedules class op-
tions may be limited. It is best
that all who are able take ad-
vantage of Advance Registra-
tion instead.
If someone completes Ad-
vance Registration and wants
to make a schedule change
he may do so by completing
the Permit to Change Ad-
vance Registration Form with
his advisor's signature. This
form must be returned to the
Registrar's Office before
regular registration day.
If it is necessary to make
changes in the course of
study after the regular
registration day the student
should secure a DropAdd
Form It should be returned to
the Registrar's Office with all
the necessary signatures
before the end of the registra-
tion period.
Both the abovementioned
forms are available in the
Registrar s Office.
There arp several advan
tages to the Advance
Registration procedure: it
helps students avoid closed
classes it helps students
avoid standing in long ' lines
on regular registration day (all
that will be necessary if finan
cial arrangements are already
made is to go to a checkpoint
and sign in); and advising can
be done for all four semesters
at one time.
To find out what classes
are available students need
to pick up a Schedule of
Classes for Summer and Fall
1988; they are available just
outside the Registrar's Of-
fice Sandefer Memorial
Advance registered
students will be notified by
mail regarding the process to
use to validate their registra-
tion. Those who have advance
registered but fail to validate
will be dropped from class
rolls.
Undergraduates should
report to Moody Center at
their designated times accor-
ding to the schedule listed
here. The one on page 2 of the
Schedule of Classes contains
an error; it does not list times
of registration for those with
Course Request Forms
numbered 451-499. Please
note the correct version of the
schedule here.
Graduates and
postgraduates begin registra-
tion in the Graduate Office
(Sandefer Memorial Room
310) and proceed to the
Registrar's Office (Room 109)
April 6-8 during the following
hours: 9-11:45 a.m. and
1:30-4:30 p.m.
Intercollege students from
ACU and McMurry will
register in the Registrar's Of-
fice April 6-8 during office
hours.
If students have additional
questions about the new pro-
cedure they should call the
Registrar s Office at exten-
sion 200
