Standing Firm
A few weekends ago I had the
chance to attend the church at
which my cousin is the pastor.
During the service she did some-
thing that I thought was very
interesting. On cue she had lis all
say our names at the same time.
Then she had us say our favorite
food. Finally we were told to say
by Andrew Boss
"Jesus." When we said our
names and our favorite food it
was mass confusion. However
when we all said "Jesus" it was
more organized and in unison.
She related this to the fact that it
is Jesus himself that brings us
all together as Christians.
It is not our individuality or

our likes and dislikes that make
us one but the fact that we share
a belief in Jesus. Each person is
unique but in the Father's eyes
this does not matter. The impor-
tant thing is our unified faith in
God. He is the thread that holds
us all together. Its like the song
"Bind Us Together" that Baptists
sing ritualistically. The song has
a verse that says "Bind us
together LordBind us together
with cords mat cannot be bro-
ken." (Now I know you arc prob-
ably sitting there singing it) This
song is actually the way that we
should look at this. God is the
one that holds us together as
believers. And these cords can
never be broken once we believe
in the Lord.
God gives us the security of
knowing that we are all one in
Him. Does. that remind you of
another song? ("We Are One in
the Bond of Love") That is why
our likes and our dislikes are dif-
ferent and why whenwhe we try
to put them all together it does
not work. The one thing that does
work is when we are all in Jesus
together. We are Christians we
are all followers of Christ.
Whether you arc a Presbyterian
Methodist or even Baptist the
Name of Jesus is the "cord" that
holds us all together in faith.
