The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Carl Gorman. Gorman was working for the US government as a Navajo interpreter when the war started. He heard the Marines needed Navajos for a special assignment, and was among the first 30 selected. After basic training, at Camp Elliott, Gorman and his group codified the Navajo language for communications usage.
