He describes escorting Oswald that morning for a final questioning and later to the basement in preparation for his transfer. He states that after walking through the basement hallway with Oswald, Jack Ruby sprang out of the line of cameramen and shot Oswald in the stomach. He then rode to Parkland Hospital in the ambulance with Oswald and Detectives J. R. Leavelle, Burgess, and Dr. Bieberdorf, and stood guard at the operation room until Oswald was pronounced dead.
