[Letter from Chester W. Nimitz to Charles Henry Nimitz, April 4, 1906]

Description: Handwritten letter from Chester Nimitz to his grandfather in Fredericksburg. Nimitz, writing from China, thanks his grandfather for money, but insists he does not need it. He then outlines his ship's itinerary for the upcoming trip to Japan. He shares the news that he will remain aboard the USS Ohio (BB-12) as a watch and division officer after the new Academy graduates arrive aboard.

Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Arthur Holtz. Holtz joined the Navy around 1942. Beginning July of 1944, he served as a First-Class Shipfitter aboard USS Canotia (AN-47), a net laying ship. They traveled to Pearl Harbor and Eniwetok. From February to April of 1945, they completed mooring and salvage duty at Iwo Jima. They traveled to Guam for repairs and Ulithi to install and maintain nets. Holtz was discharged in early 1946.

Patcke was born in born in Chicago, Illinois on 13 July 1927 and was drafted into the Marine Corps in September, 1945. He describes some of his experiences at boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina.
