"Dignity of Labor." Worker smokes a cigarette and looks directly toward the camera. Narration by Junebug Clark: This striking studio portrait of a hard working laborer has been widely published. It was hung in every United Auto Worker union hall and other labor unions has used it too. In reality, this man is a plumber who came into fix a leaking darkroom sink and while he was there my father sat him down for a portrait. It's a family trait - always keep your camera handy and keep shooting. "If your going to come back and tell me about something you've seen today, bring me back a picture," Joe would often say. Photograph of two frozen milk bottles in Detroit. They appear to be seated on someone's doorstep. One of the bottles has cracked, leaking milk onto the ground. This photograph is part of Joe Clark's "Detroit" series. Narrative by Junebug Clark: This photo of two frozen milk bottles on our front porch at 12135 Klinger Ave in Hamtramck, Mich. was a common scene in the Winter months. Our Twin Pines milk man would deliver early in the morning and by the time we could get to them.... All we could do was scrape the cream that had risen to the top and pushed the stopper out. This photo was used by Pure-Pak in an effort to promote the use of cardboard milk cartons. A hard sell because everyone believed that glass was best. Photo by: Joe Clark, HBSS.
