This design "is to provide an improved construction of shoe by which [the] contraction . . . of the hoofs of horses . . . at the heels . . . is prevented" (lines 19-24). It consists "of the plate having nail-holes, the depending flange located on the under side of said plate, extending from end to end thereof and having triangular recesses near each end, the triangular toe-calk, and the upwardly-extending beveled flanges at the rear or heel portion of plate" (lines 64-70).
