Patent for a new and improved axle-box. This design "relates to that class of axle-boxes in which anti-friction devices are employed for enabling the wheel to revolve on the axle with as little friction and wear as possible. [The] invention consists in providing anti-friction rods or rollers arranged between the axle and the vehicle-hub, and held in place in an improved manner" (lines 8-16).
Patent for a new and improved bee-hive stand. This design consists in "the combination, with a floor, of a frame provided with opposite side standards and a row of central standards, the longitudinal side bars, and a central longitudinal bar connected with said standards, tie-bars constructed to hook on said longitudinal bars, and a roof provided with hinged lids and supported by said side and central standards" (lines 85-93).
Patent for a new and improved device for removing broken screws. This design "is to provide a . . . bit specially designed for extracting screws, taps, screw-bolts, &c., from iron, marble, or other hard substances in case one of the said articles is broken off in the material into which it is screwed. The invention consists of a bit provided with an internal spiral cutting-thread and external cutters" (lines 7-15).
Patent for a new and improved dish-drier. This design consists in "[t]he body having perforations and having side projection and spout, in combination with the cover, false bottom supported from the main bottom of the drier, and having the uprights and cross-pieces" (lines 75-80).
Patent for a new and improved cotton-gin distributor. This design consists in "the combination, with the casing having an upper vertical portion and chutes diverging from the lower end of the same, of an oscillating valve mounted in the said upper portion, the rotary fans or knockers mounted in the upper ends of said chutes, and mechanism for simultaneously operating said fans or knockers and valve" (lines 16-23).
Patent for a new and improved dredging-scraper. This design "has for its object the production of a marine plow which shall serve to raise and remove obstructions and accumulations from the beds or channels of rivers, bays, harbors, and other water-courses; and the invention consists in a device for this purpose of novel construction . . . The plow, which is to be drawn over the bed of the water-course to be cleared—as, for instance, by drag chain or cable attached to a steamboat—operates to raise a few inches in depth of the deposit each time it passes over the bed or bottom of the water-course" (lines 9-22).
Patent for a new and improved fence. This design "relates to that class of farm-fences embodying upright posts and suspended panels comprising rails and suspending-wires; and its object is to provide a simple and improved fence of this character wherein rails of any length may be used, in which but one suspending-wire to each panel is employed, in lieu of at both ends of the same, as commonly constructed, and in which one or more damaged posts may be replaced without interfering with the fence proper" (lines 8-18).
Patent for a new and improved gas generator. This design "has for its object to improve the efficiency of that type of vapor generators and burners wherein oil and air pipes enter a casing having burner orifices and filled with an incombustible substance, which when heated vaporizes the oil" (lines 8-13).
Patent for a new and improved gate. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the gate and the horizontally-swinging arm arranged above the gate and provided in its free end with a longitudinal slot and a series of transverse perforations and engaging the lever, the vertical latch, also pivoted on the gate, and the horizontally-sliding connecting bar between the lower ends of the latch and the lever" (lines 90-101).
Patent for a new and improved hay-press. This design consists in "the combination of the frame, the king-bolt at the center of the same, the plunger, the pitman pivoted thereto, the double-armed lever centrally-mounted on the king-bolt and provided with loops or bridles at its ends and acting on the pitman, and the supplemental lever having its end engaging one of said loops or bridles" (lines 24-31).
Patent for improvements "to afford facilities for the more ready and perfect protection of the plant while the pulverizing-blades are cultivating the soil around it; second, to provide a better and more ready means of guiding the pulverizing-blades along the row I attain these objects by giving my guiding-fender a motion independent of the motion of the pulverizing-blades along the row and around the plants" (lines 13-19).
Patent for a new and improved cotton folder and compressor. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a table provided with a series of transverse rolls of the same size, a reciprocating carriage mounted on the rolls, and a pair of super-imposed feeding-rolls arranged in line with the carriage, of a base arranged at the end of the table and provided with two opposite pairs of standards, the pair nearest the end of the table having vertically-opposite rolls, and the other pair of standards having a single roll, and a series of transverse feeding-rolls mounted on the base" (lines 46-57).
Patent for a new and improved cotton cleaner and distributor. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the cylinder and drum, of a shaft mounted in bearings on the frame and extending through the said cylinder and provided with blades of varying length, a fan located in the drum, a pipe leading tangentially out from said drum, said pipe having openings formed therein, and guides secured on said pipe over said openings, said guides having wire sides" (lines 46-54).
Patent for an "inexpensive, light, strong, and conveniently-arranged carts adapted for carrying the rations, baggage, and accouterments of one man, and adapted also when coupled together for the safe carriage of disabled men from the field by the least possible number of attendants, and adapted also to be coupled together in pairs side by side, and to be coupled infront of each other and also to a mule-cart to allow one animal to draw the baggage of from six to ten or more men, and to carry from the field two, four, or six men at a time, the carts .being thus as well adapted for hospital service as they are for relieving or lessening the fatigues of the march" (lines 9-24).
