This design is "to improve the usefulness and efficiency of the device, to render it capable of more general application, to provide a construction whereby a given charge is rendered more powerful and effective, and to provide a divided blasting-plug . . . The invention consists more particularly in a cylindrical blasting-plug divided longitudinally into two separate or independent sections, one of which is formed with a disk-head having a vent orifice and made coextensive with the external caliber of the plug when the two sections are placed together" (lines 12-29).

This design consists in "the combination, with the coupling-head provided with a central tongue and a socket on each side of the tongue, and the forwardly-projecting spring-actuated hooks pivoted to the said head, with their rear ends abutting against the bottoms of the sockets and provided with beveled front edges of the coupling-socket provided with catches for the said hooks to engage with automatically, and the vertical spindle journaled in the central tongue and provided with flexible connections wound upon it" (lines 86-97).

This design "consists in the improved machine . . . wherein a series of rods actuated by the main carrying-wheel are intermittently projected beyond the periphery of the latter at or about the time they approach the seed hopper, so that they may enter said hopper and cause the seed to be fed to the drill-tube" (lines 17-24).

Patent for "a new and improved filter which is simple and durable in construction and easily and conveniently cleaned without disturbing the gravel" (lines 13-17).
Patent for a new and improved water filter. This design consists in "[t]he combination of a water-pump having upwardly-opening valves, an air-pump having downwardly-opening valves, and two perforated cylinders surrounding the pump-tubes and provided with a packing of filtering material, the water-pump tube opening into the inner cylinder, and the pump-tube passing entirely through both heads of the same" (lines 61-68).
Patent for a new and improved oil-burner. This design "is in oil burners intended for heating purposes, the combustion being, as in Bunsen burners, so complete as to afford little or no light. The apparatus involves constriction of the flame from a burner to arrest combustion and the admixture of air therewith as the gas rises while still heated through a laterally-perforated tube, at the top of which it is either ignited or conveyed away for subsequent consumption" (lines 11-21).
Patent for a new and improved plow. This design consists, "with the beam and mold-board, of an attachment which is adapted to be secured to either side of the beam in the rear of the mold-board, consisting of a curved standard having its lower end bent up parallel with and part way its vertical length, forming a U-shaped foot, serrations on the rear edges of the foot, and registering perforations formed in the standard and upper end of the bent-up portion, an oblique brace secured between the parallel portions of the standard, having a series of perforations therein" (lines 12-24).
