Patent for improvement in“the manufacture of hydraulic cement or lime form rotten or decomposed limestone” (lines 66-68).
Treadle Power.
Patent for a new and improved treadle power. This design "consists of a pair of treadles contrived [so] that the operator may stand erect and operate the machine . . . together with contrivances whereby the operator may at the same time apply the power of the hands and arms to assist the legs when greater power is required, and for relief of the legs when less power is required. By enabling the operator to stand erect and apply the weight of his [or her] body to the treadles by a natural walking motion . . . he [or she] can apply greater power and continue a longer time with less fatigue" (lines 7-20).
Gate Latch.
Patent for a new and improved gate latch. This design "relates to that class of gates which are used to close and open passages through fences; and its object is to compensate for shrinkage of the gate in dry weather and swelling thereof in wet weather, in order that the bolt or latch may at all times extend the right distance from the edge of the gate to properly engage the gate post or jamb" (lines 9-16).
Attachment for Chairs.
Patent for a new and improved chair. This design consists "[i]n a reading and writing attachment for chairs, the combination of a bail-shaped clamp adapted to be applied to a chair-arm, an upright slotted arm, a set-screw passing through said slotted arm and engaging the clamp, a plate carried by the upper end of said slotted arm, and a table pivotally connected to said plate, whereby the table may be adjusted vertically, horizontally, and obliquely" (lines 66-75).
Bed-Brace.
Patent for a bed brace that consists of end-loops that are held by engage hooks at the ends of the bedstead, fixed draw-wires that connect the outer and inner sides of the end-loops, a tension-loop that is connected to the side rails, tightening link with duplicate rings that slide onto the tension loop, and a transverse twisting-bar.
Hasp.
Patent for a hasp that "may be adjusted longitudinally to compensate for expansion or contraction of the parts to which it is applied, or which it is designed to connect, the means for adjustment being such that they may be manipulated without displacing or altering the relative positions of any of the parts of the device, and furthermore, to provide means whereby the hasp is capable of universal movement, whereby it is operative irrespective of the planes in which the surfaces of the connected parts are arranged" (lines 10-21).
Gate.
Patent for a gate "used to guard thoroughfares on farms, passages into fields and for like purposes, and belongs to a class wherein two similar gates are together employed, and are pivoted to rock on a frame, so as to open a passage through said fame, or close the gate opening as occasion may require" (lines 10-16). The invention is easily opened and closed, has newly designed latches, and has counterbalances.
Attachment for Cultivators.
Patent for a cotton-chopper attachment for cultivators. It can fit to any cultivator with some modification. It is a wheel that rides "upon the row and presses down into the ground parts of the cotton in the row, leaving the other standing, and of the necessary mechanism for attaching and controlling said wheel" (lines 20-24).
Washing-Machine.
Patent for "washing-machines and seeks to provide, among other improvements, a novel construction of casing and gear framing or support, an improvement in the clothes-receptacle and the devices for securing a circulation of water and steam through the clothes." Churn.
Patent for a churn in which a can has an opening in the center of its lid, in which a dasher-staff fits. The can fits in a frame. There are two parts to the frame, the part that rotates the can, and the part that holds the churn in place. The frame also holds the dasher-staff and a crank to rotate the can's frame.
