[World War One Small Box Gas Mask]

Description: World War One-era "small box respirator" gas mask, consisting of a canvas or cloth face piece, with inset glass or resin eye lenses, and straps that wrap around the back of the head. The front of the mask has a valve located behind a cloth-covered tube that goes over the mouth and attaches to a small yellow metal box containing activated charcoal (made of peach pits or the pits from other stone fruits). Description: Copy negative of two pictures. The first is of R. E. DeRusha and his "hoodlum wagon" and crew returning to the threshing machine after a rain in Santa Anna in 1919. There are four people on the wagon being pulled by a dark colored horse in front of a house and fence. The second picture is of, from left to right, Daniel Ray (D. R.) DeRusha, Romara Ray DeRusha, Julia Etta Ely Cook, and an unknown girl together in a garden with a fence and trees in the background taken near Truby in 1942.

Description: This picture shows the First Crazy Hotel Lobby in 1913. The first Crazy Hotel was built in two sections; the first section, which contained this lobby, was built in 1912. The second section was added in 1914, and joined to the first with the two sections sharing this same sky-lighted lobby. [The First Crazy Hotel]

Description: This picture shows the front of the first Crazy Hotel, which was destroyed by fire March 15, 1925. Built in two stages and joined together, the first (back) section was built in 1912, and the second (front) section was completed in 1914. A handwritten note on back of photograph states, "Crazy Hotel 1913. Front of Hotel Facing South Mineral Wells, Tx." This picture is included on page 15 of A.F. Weaver's book "TIME WAS...", and was probably taken before the second section of the hotel… more
