The event was semi-formal and lasted all day. The building was also open for the following Sunday. What you see is an exterior view of the front of the Denton Civic Center taken at night. Description: Exterior view of the front of the City of Denton Civic Center. The "community center" was designed by Texas architect, O'Neil Ford. The grand opening ceremony was held on November 18, 1867, and an open house was held that Saturday and Sunday. Interestingly, the Denton Record-Chronicle referred to the building as the "Denton Mini-Dome", although the structure was not a dome, but built like a bicycle wheel with a cable-suspension roof.
