Description: Patent for a new and improved measuring-wheel. This design "relates to the construction of an instrument whereby lineal measurements may be taken and automatically registered where the distance is greater than the circumference of the measuring-wheel. The invention consists of a graduated wheel in the slot of a bifurcated handle, and of an automatic registering attachment" (lines 7-14).

Description: Patent for a new and improved tank. This design consists in "the combination of the wooden bottom having cross-braces on its under side, the sheet-metal bottom arranged over the wooden bottom and having an annular flange nailed or secured to said wooden bottom, and the metallic body, the lower end of which is connected to the bottom by nails, while the extreme lower edge of said body is turned under the wooden bottom between the cross-braces of the latter" (lines 80-90).

Description: Patent for a new and improved balanced slide-valve. This design consists in a "Steam-chest, a valve sliding therein, a chamber on top of the steam-chest, and a diaphragm in the top of the chamber and secured by a cap or plate, in combination with a frame having a packing-box and gland, an adjustable threaded stem or bolt passing through the frame, and the double-link connection between the said stem and valve" (lines 90-97).
