The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Norman Ulmer. Ulmer joined the Navy in March 1941 and received basic training in Newport, Rhode Island. He received quartermaster signaling training in San Diego. Upon completion, he was assigned to the flag allowance aboard USS Chicago (CA-29) under Rear Admiral Newton.
