GALVESTON SEAWALL UNIT DEDICATED

LONG OF SEAWALL

The famous Galveston seawall, which has protected
the city since its disasterous hurricane of 1960,
gets a mile-long extension. Galveston officials
three years ago found that the city had grown
beyond the protection of the wall and obtained
federal approval of a three-mile extension. This
first mile, paid for by Galveston County funds,
is the latest of four extensionr'made since the
wall was first built in 1901+.

CAR AT TAPE

At dedication ceremonies for the unit, a A         1
motorcade bearing Galveston officials breaks the
tape separating the new from the old.

BAND MARCHING

The Ball High School band leads hundreds of
Galveston citizens invited to drive onto the new
extension.
