Two first places one second
place and one third place were
awarded to publications of Mc-
Murry college at the annual Texas
Intercollegiate Press Association's
closing session Saturday night at
North Texas State Teachers Col-
lege Denton.

ces Hynda on the crowning of the
king and queen at the Mardl Gras
was given first and the story of
the McMurry Indian grid victory
In the Oleander Bowl in Oalveston
by Jim Clemens was awarded the
other first place.
The second place was awarded
to the 1949 Totem yearbook class
B division. The third place was
awarded to the War Whoop class
B division.
Top five officers for 1951 elected
Saturday were from Sul Ross State
college where the 1951 TIPA con-
vention will be held. Officers are
John B. Oden president; Jack

Dead Week Begins
Monday for Students
"Dead Week" Is on tab for Mc-
Murry students beginning Mon-
day with examinations scheduled
to start the following Monday
May 15.
Definition of Dead Week as ex-
plained by the administration "No
social functions nor club meetings
of any kind and no tests by the
faculty."
The examination schedule re-
leased by Jerome Vannoy follows
with the explanation that each
examination is three hours In
length.

Nominates Officers
Suzanne Toler was nominated as
secretary of the McMurry Business
club Tuesday when the business
majors met to elect officers for the
forthcoming year.
Joe Birdwell was nominated as
director of public relations.
The nominations continued with
Clarence Hysmith Ray Wallin
and Gerald Fltzhugh for president.
Nominations for vice-president
included: Brad Rowland and Steve
McOlothlln.
Balloting will be held during
class periods next Thursday.
The club was organized 'during
the fall semester of '49 by Dr.
Karl Ashburn head of department
of business administration. The
purpose of the club Is help im-
prove the placement of graduates
bring speakers to the campus and
help develop close harmony be-
tween students.

'Macbeth'

The curtain raises on the McMurry Theater's final local presenta
tion of William Shakespeare's tragedy "Macbeth" tonight at 8 o'clock.
"Macbeth" will be the fourth and final speech production of the
current school year for the McMurry group The other presentations
were "The Glass Menagerie" "Blithe Spirit" and "Androcles and the
Lion."
Tomorrow the McMurry players will make a one-day stand in the
Odessa High School auditorium for afternoon and evening perform

Hugh Daniel ministerial stu
dent from Lockney was elected
president of the senior class In
elections which were held last week
on the campus.
Other senior officers include:
Allen Adams from Odessa who
was elected vice-president; Martha
Crlbb from Ft. Sumner New Mex
ico who was elected secretary;
and Jean Lindsey of Abilene who
was elected student council repre
sentatlve.
Maurice Pulllg of Sweetwater
was elected president of the junior
class. Vice-president elected was
Dwlght Townsend of Tahoka; sec-
retary Pat Maberry of McOaulley;
and student council representative
Dick Richey of Lebanon Indiana.

Include: Tommy Russell of Tur-
key president; Buddy Dulin of
Colorado City vice-president; Peg-
gy Whitson of Midland secretary;

To Conduct Chapel
Ruth Ann Farrar and Estelle
Mcintosh will conduct chapel Wed-
nesday giving a report of the world
conference meeting of the Woman's
Society of Christian Service which
they attended last week in Cleve-
land Ohio.
They will report the highlights
the major personalities of the con-
ference the main messages and
the theme and topic of this meet-
ing. Miss Farrar was a youth dele-
gate of the Woman's Society of
Christian Service of the New Mex-
ico Conference. Miss Mcintosh is
a deaconess of the Methodist
church.
Bulletins Announce
Summer School Dates
Bulletins announcing the twenty-
seventh annual summer session of
McMurry college were Issued last
week according to Jerome Vannoy
registrar.
The first term will begin June 12
and last until July 21. The second
term will begin July 24 and be
over August 31 according to the
bulletin.

signed by Don Vaughn. In charge
of special lighting effects Is Jack
Wheeler and Lon Brooks.
Music especially for the occasion
was composed by Philip Slates
McMurry piano professor. Slates
directs an 18-plece orchestra giv-
ing mood music throughout the
performance.

To Give Final Play
The deputation play "In a Beth-
any Home" will be presented in
the First Methodist church of
Odessa Sunday evening.
