Student Body Votes
Stevenson Over Ike
If the nation votes as McMurry votes Adlai Stevenson is the
nextVj'rosident of the United States.
Inca survey taken in assembly Tuesday in which about 360
student participated the vote was Stevenson 202 Eisenhower 143
Whip in otPs for Stuart Hamblen numbered 10 and two
enthusiastic voters declared ' I go Pogo or no go'"
Some student-comments on the election follow
FOR IKE:
1 Eisenhower has had more
relationship with foreign coun-
tries and diplomatic circles
2 He wants and expects to do
something about the Korean
Eituation and being a military
man he would naturally be more
capable to settle it
3 The American people are
tired of the corruption in domes-
tic afairs during the last seven
years and the poor foreign policy
especially in regard to Commun-
ist China East Europe and Soviet
Russia
4 If the Demos remain in of-
fice too long we will have a
socialistic nation before long
5 I want someone in the White
House for a change that knows
what he is doing not a rich
playboy who has found some-
thing else to amuse himself with
6 Stevenson would only be a
White House puppet of Truman
7 War in Korea inflation
trend to socialism corruption
Communists in government all
can be traced to Jthe Democrats
8 The tidelands steal also
leads to a vote for Ike
FOR ADLAIi
1 He has more knowledge of
political situations and problems
2 He has the humility of a
Lincoln the mind df a Wilson and
the rhetorical ability of a Frank-
lin Roosevelt
3 Stevenson has no woman to
tell him what to do!
4 At least Stevenson has
enough gumption to be consistent
in his viewpoints such as against
state ownership of tidelands
whereas Eisenhower states a dif-
ferent viewpoint in each section
of the country
5 To my knowledge a great
military leader has never made a
great president
6 I do not believe anyone
even God could raise military
spending and lower taxes as Eis-
enhower says he can
7 Last time a Republican was
in office we had a depression
8 Stevenson is a church-
going publicly professed Christ-
ian while Eisenhower has no
church affiliation It would be
suicide to entrust our nation to
one who is not a Christian.
9. Stevenson is not idot
enough to hope that a visit to Ko
rea would stop the fighting.

Abilenians Hear Nixon
In 'Whistle Stop' Campaign
'We like Dick'" was the crv
Monday night when Senator
Richard Nixon spoke at Muni-
cipal Airport
A number of McMurrians were
on hand as the Republican vice-
prcsidential candidate launched
into his attack on the Truman ad-
ministration "There's no issue where Steven-
son differs from Hary Truman"
according to Nixon
'We need a man like Eisen-
hower" he declared "who will
re-examine the foreign policy
who will go to Korea and will
come back and give us a chance
to end the war there and end it
honorably Dwight D Eisenhower
can do that and he's the only
man that can "
Nixon said the United States
has lost the military supremacy
it had at the close of World War
II ' Seven years ago the odds
and the people of the world
were 9 to 1 in our favor Today
they are 5 to 3 against us There
are 540 million people on our side
with 800 million on the side of
Communism and 600 million
neutrals
'That's the record and noth-
ing can change it" he went on
' Dean Acheson's excuses can't
change it Adlai Stevenson's jokes
can't change it nor can Harry
Truman's lies change it"
Why Vote For Ike?
The Senator listed three rea-
sons why Texans should vote for
Eisenhower
(1) There is a lot of difference
between a good Democrat and a
Truman Democrat;
(2) A vote for Stevenson is a
vote for Harry S Truman and
Dean Acheson;
