Meetings
Historic San Antonio is the site of this year's TSHA annual meeting.
Jack R. Maguire, director of the Institute of Texan Cultures; General
William Harris, chairman of the Bexar County Historical Commission;
and Mary Ann Castlebury, president of the San Antonio Conservation
Society, and members of their respective organizations have worked with
the program committee chaired by David B. Gracy, II, and with the
Association staff to fashion an annual meeting to be remembered. Tours,
a reception, a film about the battle of the Alamo, a performance by the
Granaderos de GAlvez, and interesting and varied sessions have been
scheduled.
The registration desk will open Thursday morning, March 8, at
10 A.M., and will be located in the Mall at El Tropicano Hotel. We
are opening registration earlier this year because of all the activities
planned for the first day.
Two tours are scheduled for Thursday afternoon. They begin at
slightly different times. At 1:30 P.M. buses will depart for the mission
tour. This tour will include a stop at Mission Espada, the Aqueduct,
and Mission San Josd. At San Josd, Betty Jo Calzoncit from the mission
staff will make a talk: "San Jos6 and San Antonio: A Perspective." After
the visit to San Jos6 the buses will return to the Hotel El Tropicano.
Preregistration is required for this tour.
The King Williams area tour will start at 2:30 P.M. For those who
want to see this interesting area of San Antonio, or who know they will
arrive in San Antonio too late to make the mission tour, buses will be
available to go to the King Williams area for a conducted walking view
of this historic district. The Wulff House and the Steves Homestead
will be open for you. At the River House, located on the grounds of
the Steves Homestead, Arthur J. Mayer will conclude the tour with a
talk: "San Antonio in 1890: A City at Last." Preregistration is required
for this tour.
For those who do not take one of the tours, a session is planned at
thle hotel beginning at 3 P.M. Thursday. "The Texas Revolution," one
of the eight sessions scheduled for Saturday morning, will be held at the
Alamo in the Library of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Buses
will be available for those who need transportation to the library. Pre-
registration is required for bus reservations.
Buses will leave the hotel at 6 P.M. Thursday for a reception at the In-3o2
