Organization This Year
With the forming of individual
singing groups and the elections of
officers the Chanters ore begin-
ning their fifteenth year of active
participation in bringing McMurry
College to the front in music re-
cognition During the past week final div
isions were made in the group
composed of 77 singers The Chant
eis is made up of three major
groups Music 43 an uppcrclass
men mixed chorus of 20 oices
Music 13 a ftcshman mixed chor-
us and Music 1) a girls' chorus
Fiom these groups there are scv-
eial combinations made to form
octets trios sextets and quartets
The fust engagement for the
organization in what promises to
be a veiy successful season will
be filled at Brady October 20 for
the meeting of the sixth district
Texas Federation of Women's
Clubs This will be followed with
performance October 30 In Breck-
enndgc and November 15 in huh-bock
Officers were recently elected
for the entire Chanters organiza
tion They are J C Wilson in
his third year as president Joe
Bo)d vice president and Lavada
Barnes secretary.

to write short stories essays

zine Tentative deadline for ma

"So far there is a rather acute
shortage of material for this pub
lication" she says "As well as
using the work of more experienc
ed authors and poets of the insti-
tution this issue of the "Galleon"
is to include talent which has here
tofore been hidden under the wai
bonnets and behind the totem poles
of the McMurry cimpus Some
sort of receiving box Is to be plac
ed outside the door of the War
W hoop office In this box the tim-
id but ambitious writers of the
school are urged to deposit the re
suits of their ' brain storms " If
said writer is afraid his or her
work is not good enough to be
claimed publicly he may hand it
in unsigned If the play story

tion there will be a call made for
the author of the work No mater-
ial will be published anonymously '

write but have hesitated through
fear of public opinion now is the
chance to prove to yourself that
