Itepioscntutivcs of the cij?ht rle.is Confeience schools
meet at Hiownwood Mn ') 'lhesu mumbeis ue meeting
sith the intention of timing some points in legiud to
net yeai's athletics in the confeience I he meeting itself
may take the usual com so Some expenses paiod down
in the football piogiam 01 new eligibility nilcs laid down
on tiansfeis In all piobabihty a loss expensive budget may
be attempted Then again something diastic mij come of
the meeting
We hnc leaized foi some time tint the Confeience
wasdcfinitcly weakning Too nnny attempts hac been
made to cuitail expenses This foi tic bcnelit of the smill-
ei schools The schools themsehes hac giown wcakoi in
ability. Only tcwo 01 thuee clubs have been able to plav on
equal footing with outside clubs And the last setback came
with the dropi ing of the s ing spoits tiack golf and
A gicatci numbci of the schools will lose key men The
togethci by only two spoits football and basketball
What I am tiying to sav in so many woids is that
this loop meeting Fnday ma bung alwut the dissolution
of the Tcas Confeience It's not too likely but it is pos-
sible Even though it isn't dissohed anothci step may be
taken which will eventmll lead to the same lesult How-
eei on the othci hand if tho confeience tie-up is to con-
tinue m good giace impoitant steps will hae to be taken
to put the Confeience on a soundci basis
If the Texas Confeience is continued in its piesent
role it will hae to meet a cnsis next yeai Many boys
will be drafted. Eveiy school will lose from this situation.
Agreater numbei of the schools will lose key men. The
clubs will be in a very weak state to have to cany on
sports. e j aJ4
I can think of one solution that will save the situation.
And unless I judge wiong this solution will be put befoie
the school representatives Friday. Baseball could be the
Key that locks the Confeience into a stronger tie-up That
is if it could be put on a stiong footing. Baseball is mak-
ing a stout attempt at a comegack in college spoit life.
However at this point in levival it is still at a weak stage
From the meeting News which states that due to fin-
then it might be a miserable flop At the piesent we cannot
definitely judge the populauty of the idea of baseball in
the confeience.
On my advice you will look at the spoits page of a daily
papei Satuiday morning. Theie may be impoitant news
from the meeting.
fiom the meeting News which states that due to fin-
ancial troubles the Texas Conference will be unable to
continue further sponsoring of sports Ite lies in the hands
of the higher-ups.
(Later news: Alvah Baggs has resigned his position
as head coach at Trinity University This may be a fore-
warning of the loss of Trinity from the confeience Lineup )
