Photograph of 224 E. Park Avenue taken from the road. Photo was taken for the Historic Resources Survey of Palestine, Texas 1989-1991. The most popular house form in Palestine from the late 1910s through the 1930s was the Craftsman bungalow, and many examples still survive in most of the city’s neighborhoods. This house on E. Park Avenue, is indicative of the movement and retains much of its historic character and integrity. Distinguishing features include an expansive front porch with clipped gables. A “heavy” appearance is achieved by the use of short, squat porch columns that are grouped in sets of three and rest on broad brick piers. This house was originally listed at 224 E. Trinity. From as early as 1926 through at least the early 1940s, it was the home of B. Arthur Harrison, a contractor, and his wife Ruby.
