Special to the Gazette
Xn Yoiik April 1 The action of tho
Italian civernment in recalling Baron Fava
caused a decided uneasiness in London and
speculators there sold stocks freely both in
the London market and stock exchange
tiva About five thousand shares of St
ljul were sold by London in the first hour
It is stated that few American securities
arc held in Italy and are principally rail-
road bonds which will not cotno on tho
market Italian bankers say that the only
tinan nil chaasro anticipated is an advance
iu raisof exchange between Itaiy and Paris
and London
The officers of tho Rock Island road posi-
tively deny that the Omaha bridge troubles
have been settled but stated and tacitly
Confirmed that the Rock Island company
m uie arrangements to use the Nebraska
Central bridge and will build necessary ex-
tensions to connect its lines with that
structure This will render the rights to
cm- the Omaha bridsre of less importance
but for ail that the Rock Island will contest
in courts to compel the Union Pacific to
abide by the terms of the contract
Rumors that tha Vanderbilts aro holding
nn option on the control of the Reading road
continues current and it was stated to day
that H McKay Twombly who bought W
W Gibb3 share in the syndicate has
buisrht up all Wanamaker stock iu the syn
tin ate for Cornelius Vmderbilt Wana
maker is not personally represented in tho
syudieale which consists of Gibson Dolan

those who are aware of tho tottering con-

the provocation were great the country
could not afford It Nevertheless the recall
of the Italian minister at Washington had
the effect of depressing the price of Ameri-
