thatjustice could not be bad and that the
facts would never become known we felt
compelled as true Alliance men as pa-
triots to resort to tho only means of ae
fense of our noble order to
lFFril TO TIIE PUBLIC
President Jones will not deny that I
more than once as many as four times
protested against his per diem pay of 3
and a salary of 1000 per annum Be it
known that I as a member of tho executive
committee refused to audit his accounts
for per diem whereupon lie Jones said if
th committee did not allow him the 3 per
diem that he would make it cost tho stato
Alliance moie than that as he would stop
at first class hotels etc as under the con-
stitution his traveling expenses v ere al-
lowed This fact was made known by me
to the delegates to the state Alliance
in lsS9 and was largely instrumental
in defeating him for re election at that
time But the whole machinery of the
oder v js put to woi k and the sub-treasury
element contnbutcd no little in that
dnec ion to secure his election at the last
state meeting
It is further stated that McCumiingham
and I hae been United out of power and
hence our madness To this I have only
to say that tho constitution bars anyono
from serving on tho cxecuUvo committee
for more than two Uims consecutively
and that we were elected as such m I333
and wero again in lbi9 unanimously elected
by acclamation Does this look as if we
weie kicked out
Now in legard to the steering commit-
tee President Jones is respectfully asked
to show the page ai tide and section of the
constitution or the resolution with day
and dale of passago by the state Alliance
authorizing him to appoint a legislative
committee
And ho is further very respectfully asked
wbi he did not recall said committee when
asked bj a resolution to do so by tho
Farmers Alliaiuo members of the house
and he la further asked to expli n to tho
Alliance members of the house and an in-
quisitive puolic why this committee so
stienuously opposed the lepeil of the oil in-
spection law And why the said committeo
often and sopiiatelj threatened to publish
certain ones or an one if they did not
vote
ACCOlDIVS TO lis DICTATES
And he is further oii to state wh ho
iippointed a man ou that committee wht m
he well knew had no influeni e ith a goodly
number of the members of tne house and
abovo all he will oblige us and the punlio
if he w ill state from whereo and what lunJ
wore p id as he well knows there is not
that it was working for nothing and pay-
mp its own bum
Again will ho please stafo why since
the meeting of the last state Alliance
certain pirties have secured a now char-
ter for the Southern Mercurj In other
wons made it a private corporation
And v hj the Jkicui in its p etense of
fairness will not publish both sides of
tin- contiov rsy butsajs it will publish
noiliip unless it is in tho lino of a dis
luum of state or national demands o
