hear perfect drill this afternoon It
breaking Into fours from a company

There is a difference between Capt

tho program conrequeutb both cannot
he right The stop was just n trllle
slow and every time the company
drested the left hand was placed at

the exactness with which the manual
was executed and the perfection of
the field movements brought forth
much applause
The Memphis entry for the maiden
drill the Governors guards received
such apptauie when It marched on the
para do grounds that Captain iNilter

The state of Texas one of the oung
est states in the union is surpassing
nil the other states even the New Eng-
land states In the education of the
masses at public expense The mag-
nitude of her common school fund has
never been equaled and perhaps never
will be One half of the public do-
main of the state was set apart years
ago for common school purposes
The city council of Kaufman are now
building n magnificent college edifice
and It will be ready for use b the
first of September The have not but
will soon Vole upon a proposition to
levy a tax on property within the cor-
poration sufficient to carry on a school
nt public expense ten months in the
ear and I am told that it Is the pur-
pose of the trustees to emplo nn
ample corps of professors and teach-
ers and to establish a first class Insti-
tution of learning at which joung men

welve not only for practical life but
olo to enter a university and to re-
ceive the highest order of mental train-
ing

of the teachers and I am of the opinion
that It did credit not only to the pro-
