Musical.
We are in receipt of the Novem-
ber and December numbers of tbe
Musical Million, a monthly Journal
replete with pure literature—prose
and poetical—and excellent music.
This Journal is published by Rue-
bush, Kicffcr A Go., at Dayton,
Rockingham Co., Vnginia. It con-
tains 16 pages, 3 columns to the
Repobt of Committee ox Missues.
We, your committee on Missions, would respectfully submit the following
Report:
RlToET.
Jesus was sent of Gml—not
Christ's Miasion was to lieuelit otb-
The spirit of Missions is the spirit of Christ
—do His Own W ill ; but the will of God. l>li - . n id.m>i, .... ... *-n,
era ; to this end He labored, and for others. He died—even his enemies, that
they, through Him—might live: Hence the spirit of Christ ia the spirit of mis-
siona. If any man baa not the spiut of Christ he is none of His. This
should be impressed ou all our members; that is, the work of God's Children
in the world—to preacb the Gospel to every creature--beginning at home,
and sending it far and near, as fast as opportunity affords us llmt means.
The Churches should return to the scriptural plan of giviug on the first day
of the week, as God has prospered them. The spirit of the covetousness is
the opposite to the spirit of Christ and is tbe source of all opposition to Mis-
sions. Such a spirit impoverishes the sonl ; is detrimental to the progress of
Zion, and dishonors God. May God help the Churches of tins Association to
cultivate the grace of giving to the Lord of our substance for his honor and
glory. N. Mitchell,

A newspaper is usually tbe index
to the business of the town. Did yon
ever pick up a paper published at
some strange town and see a large ad-
vertisement without thinking to your-
self or saying to your neighbor: ‘That
man is doing an immense business,’
or forming a resolution to visit him
the first opportunity? There is noth-
ing like it, and when you put an ad-
vertisement in the paper don’t ima-
gine that you have donated so much
to keep the editor out of the poor
bowse.
