New Orleans Jan. 3. A morning
paper's Washington special sayt: The
anty option bill now beloro the senate
hiiB been rnatirially amended by that
body and other important amend-
ments are ponding somo of which
will certainly bo accepted by the
senate. Tho bill if passed will
thcrtfore bo returned to the houso for
concurrence or non concurrence in
tho amendments. It is claimed by
Hatch and bis followers that if 'he
amendments are concurred in he mil
force a vote to concur. Otherwise
thoy will bo reft rrcd to a coni'crenco
committee. Hatch believes und it is
probably correot that thero is a ma
jority in the house sufficient to dis-
pose of the bill and amendments as
they oboouo.
The chances of defeating the bill
in tho home therefore aro limited as
even opponents to the measure admit
that it tho hill passes the senate it
will also pass tho house after somo
vigorous opposition. The only hope
apparently is to defoat it in tho ten-
ate. Thu I'linumii Affulr
