Our lCcuuhllc.
This is the tltlo to a book of 700
pages that our fellow towns man
Mr. 10. L Huffman has taken the
agency for and it contains an
interesting description of our
country from tho days when
tho deeply devout sturdy und
God fearing Puritans wero ready
and willing to withstand any
change of fortune no matter
how it cunio they woro
over ready to give thanks lo
Heaven for its mercies to such
worms as thoy whether writh-
ing in tho putiL'S of hungor or
torture to lay tho loundation of
a great republic.
Every event in the history of
our country is roviowed in an
easy and fascinating way from
the times when the windows
wero made so narrow that In
dians could not crawl through
and oiled papor was used in
place of glass to our presold
never ending list of luxuries
for our wives and daughters
All of tho notablo inventions are
described and tho trials and
vicissitudes of the inventors in
displaying their inventions sons
to secure their use and udop
tlons as necessities of life form
more than interesting reading.
Tho whole amount of it is
tho on tiro book reads like au
easy story and you simply start
at tho beginning auf are novcr
satisfied until yoii read every
page to tho end consequently
it is an easy and agreeable way
of learning tho history of our
republic which should be known
by ovory man woman and child.

Feeding 50c Corn.
From Twentieth Century Farmer.
A good many leeders are de
bating just now as to tho wisdom
of trying to feed steers for beef
tho coming winter the question
boing whether they can make
anything by feeding GO cent
corn. Ouo thing is certain
there will ho great tailing off of
beef production in uny ovont.
This fact is likely to put goou
beef animals up lo fancy prices
by next spring and if a man
has tho right sort of steers
well bred buof animals wo hud
just us soon take our chanco
feeding them 50 cent corn this
year as JJ0 cent corn in ordluary
seasons. Then tho side issue
of the iiogs associuted with tho
feeding of tho stoors is sure to
be a good proposition. Now
mind this statement is pro-
dieted upon tho kind of steers
fed for wo would not uttompt

It is only a matter of a few
years bofore the attention of our
larmors will bo forcibly drawn
to tho importance of ull sugar
hearing plants for sugar will be
Justus much a money crop as
cotton since there is ut all times
a demand for sugar and its pro-
ducts. Iu 180!) the United Stales paid
to foreign countries $9-1904120
for sugar that we needed for do-
mestic use. and as Louisiana
only produces 1(5 per cunt of tho
sugar wo consume it is evident
that thore is no danger in us
over producing our crop ol su
gur. As it is uuw it tukes about
ono third to ono half of tho cut-
ton we export to pay forour su
gur. It is estimuted by somo
authorities that In ten years it
will take our entire cotton crop
for sugar.
Sorghum cane produces some
thing the whole world needs and
must have which is sugar and
us it grows very luxurautly in
this section of Toxus thore is no
reason for limiting its acreuge.
In tho slock regions of West-

The Circus Crime to Town
For the past two weeks the
old lolks andtho young folks have
been awuiting the day that tho
circus should come to town und
for miles around the stockmen
have been arranging tnuir busi-
ness so as to be in San Angelo
on that day.
For several days the boys have
been steadily pouring in from ull
directions until tho wagon yards
and streets wore tilled with all
sorts of outtits bringing in their
families. Tho boys on tho range
believe in having a good time.
Thoy like to see good riding and
the ladies Hying through the air
and thoso who have families
want the children to onjoy them-
selves while they can. So cir-
cus day is a sort of it feat day
with tho ranchman und his fami-
ly in Westoru Texas. Every
body seemed to enjoy themsol-
ves. The streets were thronged
with people to witness tho street
parade to see tho clowns and
acrobats and liston to tho steam
calliope and spiellers crying out
their various big things thoy are
going to do and show tho people.
Of course there wero all sorts
of remarks made by those who
did not want to give up anything
in the shape of money said it
wus not much and made all
sorts of disparaging remarks so
as to prepare their friends why
thoy did not want to spend any-
thing. But tho cheap and mean
folks novor will be able to rule
this world and it is it good thing
thoy don't us it would not bo
much of a world to llvo in if thoy
did rule things.
It doos tho people good and
for tho childrons' sake alone all
thoso who do not beliovo in
spending anything for tho cir-
cus should be dropped ovor tho
first high fence as no good to
themselves or any one on earth
for tho littlo ones wont to bed
tho night before those living
within tho sound of the whistle
of tho special were up und could
hardly eat their breakfast us
their uppetitos hud desorted
them for tho thoughts of tho cir-
cus. To anyone who loves chil-
dren it was certainly a great day
of pleasure to hear them talk
ovor tho big things they saw.
and watch them enjoy themsel-
ves. Well tho circus has been here
und gono. It has loft pleasant
memories in hundreds and hun-
dreds and hundreds of little
hearts that we should over strive
