Dr. Phillips Mend of the University
Survey Is Being Deluged With
lit(iilrlcs.
Austin Tex. Sept. K. Dr.
W. 15. Philips the professor of
Held geology of the State (Diver-
sity and who is at the head of tho
State mineral survey has return-
ed from Brewster county where
he has been for the last several
days investigating the quicksilver
and other mineral resources of
that section. Owing to the fact
that the law governing the State
mineral survey provides that those
employed in that work shall di-
vulge no information as to their
discoveries until the same are
published in bulletin form Dr.
1'hilips declined to give Tho Nows
correspondent information in
regard to tho reported discover-
ies of quicksilver in tho locality
about fifty miles northwest of Bo-
quillas in Brewster county. Up-
on his arrival here Dr. Philips
found a big stack of letters await-
ing him from persons in all parts of
the t'nited States making inquiry
regarding the quicksilver Ileitis of
Brewster county. The demands
for prospective quicksilver lands
in that county has greatly increas-
ed and many purchases of sections
have been made within the last
few days by per-ons who propose
to prospect for the mineral.
A surveying corps in charge of
Men Hill who is associated with
Dr. Philipi in the work is now
employed in examining the min-
eral resources of Presidio county.
Dr. Philips will prepare a bulletin
on the quicksilver districts of
Brewster county and publish it
in the course of the next several
weeks. It will contain a largo
amount of interesting and valua-
ble data and be in great demand
by thoso who aro interested in the
development of that region.
