Circle Paving Getting Underway
Prexy To Observe
Birthday March 13
As Quiet Affair
Dr. J. D. Sandefer, completing his
thirtieth year as H-SU president with
the spring semester, observes his 71st
birthday March 13. "Prexy" has not
been well this winter, but the entire
Hardin-Simmons family will be glad
to know he is feeling the best in many
weeks. He will be glad to hear from
each and all of us.
This year's birthday will be quietly
observed, in contrast with last year's
Prexy Sandefer Day and civic cele-
bration, and open house at the Bernard
Hanks' home. Mrs. Prexy, too, comes
in for congratulations, observing her
birthday on February 27.

Cowgirls In Movies
Fox Movietone's Ace Cameraman
Orr, from Denver, is expected on the
campus soon to take some pictures of
the Cowgirls for the movies. He
wants 'em in action as crack pistol
and rifle shots, and at work under the
tutelage of typical West Texas marks-
men. It was Mr. Orr who took the
fall movies of the Cowboy gridders
at practice on horse back, and totin'
calves. These "gag" shots, first used
by Fox, are now being shown the
country over in RKO's Sports Oddities
short subject. These will be shown
at Abilene's Paramount March 9 to
11.
New "S" Club Officers
Members of the Hardin-Simmons
"S" club elected new officers and in-
augurated a plan of regular monthly
meetings at their annual election ses-
sion in January.
T. J. Bailey was chosen president
of the group to succeed H. A. Pender,
Si Addington, vice president, and
George Foster, secretary were other
officers named.

Underwrite Project
With alumni and trustees of Hardin
Simmons underwriting the school
share of a $12,000 project, plans for
raising the $4,000 needed by H-SU
for its part in paving of the 2,400
foot campus "circle drive" were
launched last week at a meeting of
Abilene members of the school's board
of trustees and supporting funds are
rapidly being raised to complete the
project.
Initial movement for the paving
was started several weeks ago by the
H-SU Brand, following a survey to
find the greatest need on the campus.
In accordance with his plan to make
some needed improvement on the
campus each year, President J. D.
Sandefer headed the fund subscrip-
tion list with a $100 contribution.
Paving of the streets is Prexy's pet
spring project.
Contributions of $300 and $200
headed the general fund to underwrite
the paving costs. These were from
trustees, W. J. Behrens, trustee chair-
man, said. The faculty has already
raised $684, with four members still
to report personal pledges. The stu-
dents have added $151 to the fund to
date, following a special chapel pro-
gram Wednesday.

ial student and pastor of Immanuel
Baptist Church, of Abilene, has re-
signed because of ill health, and has
gone, with his family, to Costa Mesa,
Calif.
Tom Barnes, H-SU alumnus, now
member of the science faculty at the
College of Mines, El Paso, and Eliza-
beth Evans, Talpa, were married dur-
ing the holidays. Rev. Kelly Barnett,
H-SU alumnus, too, read the cere-
mony, at Talpa. Tom taught science
in Abilene High School for two years
before going to El Paso.
