New Faculty Officers.
Dr. Omer Hancock will serve as
president of the University faculty for
1998-1999. A member of the HSU
Logsdon School of Theology faculty,
he came to HSU in 1981. The other
officers are Dr. Chris McNair '84,
assistant professor of biology and
head of the department, vice presi-
dent; and Prof. Frances Kesner
Renfroe '60, assistant professor of
mathematics, secretary. Both McNair
and Renfroe have been at HSU since
1992.
HSU Promotes Faculty,
Grants Tenure.
With the approval of the Trustees,seven HSU faculty members received
promotions and seven others were
granted tenure. From assistant
professor to associate professor: Ms.
Susan Allen, social work; Dr. James
Ivey, theatre; Dr. Christopher McNair,
biology; Ms. Kathy McNeil, music, and
Dr. Don Williford, theology. From
associate professor to professor: Dr.
Diana Higgins, education, and Dr.
Mark Puckett, music. Tenure was
granted to Dr. Herb Grover, biology;
Dr. Randall Maurer, psychology; Dr.
Ronnie Prevost, theology; Prof.
Frances Renfroe, mathematics; Dr.
Murl Sickbert, music librarian; Don
Stevenson, art, and Dr. Pamela
Williford, education.
Faculty Receive Coveted
Cullen Award.
Kathy McNeil and Dr. Larry Wolzwcrc recognized as Cullen Award
recipients. McNeil, assistant professor
of voice and a School of Music faculty
member since 1978, was named the
winner of the teaching award. Wolz,
also a music faculty member since
1978, was awarded the research and
creativity award. He is professor of
music history and voice, and head of
the department of music history and
literature. Both were chosen for the
awards by fellow faculty members.
School of Nursing Dean.
Dr. Cecilia (Cece) M. Tiller assumed
the deanship of the Abilene Intercolle-ION
giate School of Nursing on July 6.
Dr. Tiller was most recently associate
professor of the dept. of parent-child
nursing, School of Nursing, Medical
College of Georgia, Augusta, the
Health
Sciences
y. University of
Georgia. She
earned the
doctor of
science
degree in
nursing
' (DSN) from
the University of Alabama at Birming-
ham. She received the masters of
nursing (MN) from the University of
South Carolina, Columbia. The Kansas
native earned the bachelor of science
degree in nursing (BSN) from the
University of Kansas, Manhattan. She
and her husband, Charles B. Tiller, are
the parents of two sons, Christian, 22,
and Chad, 19. The AISN is a consor-
tium of ACU, HSU and McM in
cooperation with Hendrick Medical
Center.
New Volleyball Coach.
Holly Tarter the new coach, is a
1987 graduate of Colorado High
School. A 4-year player at Sul Ross
University and an accomplished coach
at the high school ranks, Tarter brings
impressive credentials to HSU. She
led Round Rock High School to a
district championship and a berth in
the regional quarterfinals in her only
year there in 1996. The previous two
years she spent as a varsity volleyball,
softball, and track coach and assistant
basketball coach at Bastrop High
School. The basketball team claimed
the district crown both years and was
a regional finalist in 1995-1996 with a
